Coatings: More Than Just a Layer of Paint
The primary function of a coating? Corrosion protection. Modern systems such as Xylan or Xylar+Xylan can withstand up to 4,000 hours of salt spray testing—a performance that far exceeds that of base materials such as stainless steel or steel. The coating forms a chemical barrier and prevents moisture infiltration, thereby significantly extending the service life of fasteners.
In addition, PTFE-based coatings reduce friction. This means easier assembly, a lower risk of galling, and less wear—which is crucial for applications that require regular maintenance or disassembly.
Technologies That Make a Difference
Zinc Coatings
From electrolytic galvanizing to hot-dip galvanizing: zinc protects by corroding first. Zinc flake coatings (such as Delta and Geomet) offer an elegant balance between corrosion resistance and dimensional stability. With a coating thickness of just 6–8 μm, they achieve more than 1,000 hours in salt spray testing.
Fluoropolymer Coatings
Together, Xylan and Xylar form an extremely robust coating system for chemical environments. They combine excellent sliding properties with temperature resistance up to 535°C. Applications? From cleanrooms to heavy-duty process technology.
Thermal Spraying and Epoxy
In applications where extreme heat, wear, or impact are factors—such as offshore or petrochemical operations—ceramic or zinc phosphate-epoxy systems provide a solution. These systems comply with ISO 12944 (corrosion class C5-CX) and can withstand the harshest conditions.
Selection Criteria: The Right Choice Starts with the Application
Every coating solution begins with an analysis of the environment:
- Temperature Load – How Hot Can the Material Get?
- Chemical influences —acids, alkalis, solvents?
- Mechanical stress —impact, vibration, abrasion?
- Corrosion Class – from mild (C1) to extreme (C5+)
From Inspection to Service Life Extension
A coating stands or falls on its application. That is why monitoring during the application process is essential: humidity, dew point, surface temperature—everything must be just right. After that, inspections and preventive maintenance take over. Early detection of discoloration, blistering, or peeling extends the service life and prevents downtime.
Future-Proof Coating
The market is shifting toward sustainable and smart coatings: chromium(VI)-free systems, water-based solutions, and even self-healing nanocoatings. Archey closely follows these innovations—not because it has to, but because they contribute to reliability, safety, and circularity.
At Archey, we view coating technology as an integral part of fastening technology. Our role doesn’t end with supplying the right fastener—we ensure that it continues to perform, even under the most extreme conditions. Through knowledge, partnership, and precision.
