Boston Flood Barrier

A hydraulic structure for Boston Town and the Lincolnshire hinterland.

After there was a major flood on the east coast of England in 2013, 800 households in Boston were flooded. A program was then set up from the government to protect the coastline. One of these projects is the Boston Flood Barrier.

The challenge

Following the bankruptcy of an existing supplier of Hollandia, Peco Douwes was contacted. To prevent the project from stalling, Peco Douwes purchased the fastening anchors from the existing supplier. Their quick approach allowed them to be rolled and given the proper surface treatment. Due to Peco Douwes' proactive approach, the fasteners still made it to Hollandia on time.

Impact

Storm surge barriers are movable barriers in river mouths, waterways and estuaries. They close at extreme high tides. Archey supplied the fastening anchors with diameters of M36, M72 and M76 and lengths of up to 8 meters, including nuts and washers, for this purpose.
