Roof Spoiler Installation
This request came from a Product Engineer, who asked us to help brainstorm a solution to this assembly problem. The goal was to find a quick and efficient way to secure the part on the assembly line; the challenge was the limited space available between the spoiler for screwing it in place.
The Challenge
For transport of the new trucks, the roof spoilers are mounted on the rear chassis rather than on the cab roof to prevent damage. This is an installation task that was previously performed manually using a wrench. At the dealership—that is, before delivery to the customer—the spoiler is removed again and then mounted on the roof.
The Solution
In this case, a cordless tool offers the greatest freedom of movement. We therefore reached out to one of our manufacturers, Lübbering—which specializes in specific attachments—to design a suitable adapter for the Bosch angle screwdriver. The result is a Bosch Angle Exact 30-290 (operating range 10–30 Nm), which meets the required torque specifications and features a custom-made hex drive. (Lübbering Special In-Line Head with 15 mm hex output socket and CV-2315 axial adapter).
Result
It has resulted in enormous time savings. That means money—more production in the same amount of time. It’s also less prone to damage thanks to its easy accessibility. The customer was very satisfied with this solution and ultimately ordered several complete sets.
