Reinforcement and Renovation of the Galecopper Bridge
Between 2013 and 2015, the bridge underwent extensive repairs commissioned by Rijkswaterstaat. This renovation was aimed at reinforcing the bridge and resurfacing the roadway, which was essential for improving traffic flow and meeting modern standards.
The Challenge
During the renovation, the Galecopper Bridge was raised, increasing the clearance height by 70 cm. This modification ensures that the bridge complies with the new standard for Rhine navigation height, which is important for the passage of ships. The renewed road surface and the reinforced structure contribute to a longer service life for the bridge, allowing it to continue functioning as an efficient thoroughfare for both automotive and maritime traffic for the next 30 years.
