The Challenge
The customer had received a complaint from his client regarding repeated power outages caused by connectors coming loose from the power cables. This resulted in power outages affecting lighting and LED fixtures. These issues occurred in a data center, where cabling and power supply are critical and must be guaranteed to be reliable. The screws were secured using a simple cordless screwdriver with a single fixed speed setting, which frequently caused the screw heads to break off.
The Solution
They found us through our website, and a site visit was scheduled at short notice. On site, we examined the product (cable and connector), the screw, and the fastening method, and we conducted tests using various brands of screwdrivers. The flat electrical cable to which the connector is to be screwed has relatively soft insulation. Due to the high speed used, the screw did not seat properly, resulting in the screws eventually coming loose. Reducing the speed should resolve the issue.
Archey Products
Our programmable Bosch Exact machines are set to 0.8 Nm; 5 rotations of 1,800 degrees at 640 rpm, and the final 2 rotations of 720 degrees at 134 rpm. This resulted in better relaxation of the soft joint and created a consistently secure connection. An additional advantage was that the battery has twice the power, which has a positive effect on the tolerances.
