Oosterschelde Barrier
The Oosterschelde Storm Surge Barrier is a crucial renovation project currently underway in the Netherlands. This barrier helps protect the country from flooding and other natural disasters.
The Challenge
These tension anchors are made of grade 8.8, from 42CrMo4 raw material, which ensures that they have superior tensile strength and yield strength. To ensure good corrosion resistance and the ability to maintain a secure connection over the long term—even in saltwater environments such as the Oosterschelde in the province of Zeeland in the Netherlands—these anchors are supplied with a special coating known as “Flammspritz galvanizing” (similar to hot-dip galvanizing but with better corrosion resistance). This ensures that structures remain securely fastened, even after decades of environmental wear and tear.
The Solution
For this project, Peco Douwes will be supplying very special anchors. These prestressing anchors will be supplied in diameters of M48 and M56, with lengths of up to over 11 meters! These anchors are essential to the project’s success, and Peco Douwes is proud to be a part of it.
