The Challenge
While assembling new coolers, Varex Imaging Nederland B.V. encountered space constraints and a wide variety of torque requirements and drive types. They wanted to gain a clear understanding of their production setup in advance. To do this, they used a 3D CAD model to ensure that all tools would be suitable for use in the final assembly process.
The Solution
Together with the production engineers at Varex Imaging Nederland B.V., we reviewed all the requirements regarding torque values and tolerances and then devised a set of different tools. Because assembly follows a specific sequence and each connection has a different setting, each type of screw connection is assigned a tool with a power bit or torque socket. For easy identification, each tool was labeled with the preset torque value clearly displayed.
Result
By conducting a thorough assessment in advance, Varex ensured a smooth assembly process, resulting in time savings, the elimination of errors during the process, and improved monitoring capabilities. Partly because of this, the production process can be scaled up quickly. Furthermore, by establishing clear work instructions, multiple employees can perform the tasks. This greatly enhances flexibility and efficiency.
