Offshore Solar Panels

The most innovative projects are secured with bolts.
The Challenge
In the Netherlands, solar panels have become an integral part of daily life, and fortunately, their numbers are growing. These solar panels are installed using standard bolts and/or screws that you can pick up at the specialty store around the corner. However, roofs and other onshore locations are no longer sufficient to meet our energy needs, which raises the question: where can we find enough space? At sea!
The Challenge
Now, an initiative has also been launched to install solar panels on floating pontoons off the coast of Scheveningen. If successful, this initiative could eventually cover 50% of our national energy needs. However, this does present some challenges. Storms, seawater, currents, etc.—you won’t be able to handle that with just the screws and bolts from the specialty store around the corner.
Result
For this project, we supplied screws for connecting the solar panels. These screws must withstand considerable forces in windy conditions, and they are also corrosion-resistant. In addition to the screws, we also supplied special, high-quality M24x280 pin bolts to connect the pontoons to one another.
