Our customer EWT provides maintenance and assembly on wind turbines in the Netherlands. They use electric nutrunners of the Alkitronic brand for these heavy duty bolted connections. In windmills, the rotor blades are mounted to the rotor hub. The distance between each bolt/nut connection is very tight which can create a support problem. The support is necessary to loosen or tighten a nut.

With this fact we went to work and in consultation with our supplier tackled the problem. Alkitronic is known for its tools for heavy-duty connections and also supplies targeted accessories for this.

To solve this support problem, a sliding support arm - specifically tailored for this application - was constructed. In combination with the nutrunner model EFCip60 with an operating range of 250-2,450 Nm, this offers an excellent solution. This allows the nutrunner to release its reaction forces and effortlessly achieve the required tightening torque.

Customizing the tool allows the user to work much more efficiently and quickly. In short saving time and ease of use, especially at high altitudes provides benefits. A support arm specifically for a particular application can make all the difference, and of course not only in for the wind turbine industry but also in various other industrial applications, such as Automotive building & construction.
