The challenge

In the Netherlands it is impossible to imagine life without solar panels and fortunately they are becoming more and more common. These solar panels are mounted with regular bolts and/or screws that you could get at the specialty store around the corner. Only the roofs and other places on land are no longer sufficient for our energy needs, only then the question arises: where is there enough space for us? At sea!

Now an initiative has also been launched in which solar panels will be placed off the coast of Scheveningen on floating pontoons. With this initiative, if successful, 50% of our national energy needs could soon be met. This does bring with it the necessary challenges. The storms, seawater, currents, etc. You're not going to save that with the screws and bolts from the specialty store around the corner.

Impact

For this project we supplied screws for connecting the solar panels. These screws have to withstand considerable forces in windy conditions and are also corrosion resistant. In addition to the screws, we also supplied special high-quality pin bolts M24x280 to connect the pontoons together.
